Walk 1: City Centre (1.5 miles)

From Carlisle’s bustling station this walks winds you round The Citadel, an ancient gateway to the south. Then it’s up the city’s main, pedestrianised thoroughfare, past Carlisle Cross and the Old Town Hall into a modern shopping mall with hidden treasures. Loop back past the Old Fire Station and a Victorian Market Hall to the Guildhall. Walk beside the city walls, then arrive at the cathedral, a wondrous beauty to behold.

Walk 2: Cathedral, Castle & Bitts Park (1 mile)

Enjoy the fascinating grounds of Carlisle Cathedral, then visit some typical streets where John Wesley once preached. Walk by the famous Tullie House Museum before crossing its gardens and pleasing courtyards – a beautiful space in the heart of the city. Next, be careful, as you encounter the infamous Cursing Stone before passing Carlisle Castle to end at a delightful park, where you can walk, play or watch the world go by!

Both walks are suitable for buggies and wheelchairs.
