Awaken your senses and get out in the fresh air on our artist-led interactive sculpture nature walks every Friday this summer. Spend time noticing and connecting to the beauty of the natural world, led by imaginative artists who will help you discover in new ways. Create art- and nature-filled family memories.

There will be two sessions each Friday.

Session one: 11:00am–12:30pm

Session two: 2pm–3:30pm

Book your place via Eventbrite.

Both adults AND children must have their own event tickets due to Covid restrictions.

30th July – Join us for an adventure as we wander through the woods, noticing the unseen. Explore painting with nature and open your eyes and imaginations to see things differently.

6th August – Under 5s. A little walk for little legs. Hop, skip and jump as we meet sculptures and say hello to wildlife in this playful walk.

13th August – Autism Friendly Walk (6+)

OR 20th August – Autism Friendly Walk (6+)

An Autism friendly sculpture and nature walk. Meet the leaders and have a sneaky peek at your journey and activities before you join us in person to experience this sensory exploration of nature in your own way through your own choices. Once booked, we will email our Autism friendly walk planner. If you need any more support please contact Emma Spencer (Family Learning Programmer) on emma.spencer@ysp.org.uk.

27th August – Capture the changes in nature, notice the wind, light and shadows, and let the natural word inspire you to draw in new ways. Be inspired to explore different ways to draw and record changes, while enjoying a wander through the woods.

3rd September – Under 5s. A little walk for little legs. Hop, skip and jump as we meet sculptures and say hello to wildlife in this playful walk.

Please note: This event is free to YSP visitors but pre-booking is essential. A YSP general entry ticket is also required for all participants – book in advance.

Dress for the outdoors in clothes that can get messy.

Meet at the Hidden Forest at YSP Learning. The walk to the Hidden Forest is relatively long, especially with inquisitive children. It’s around 600 metres from the main car park (around 10 minutes for able-bodied adults). Please allow for ample time to arrive there before your session starts. The closer YSP Learning car park will only be open once the main YSP car park is full.

This event is suitable for wheelchair users. Please contact us after booking if you have any access needs.

We appreciate that due to both Covid-19 and weather-related issues, some events may have to be cancelled. YSP will cancel these events accordingly. If you have already booked your general YSP ticket specifically for one of these events, you will receive a refund – but only when cancelled by us.

Each event has limited places. If you can no longer make it after booking, please let us know so that we can make your place available for another family.

Playful Family Sculpture and Nature Walks are part of Festival of the Earth, led by Wakefield Council, from July to October 2021 across the Wakefield district.
