Just because Bonfire Night can't go ahead as usual this year, that doesn't mean families can't have lots of fun and enjoy a safe celebration at home! That's why we've put together our Top 5 fun and creative ways to spend the festive season inside and outside instead of attending a fireworks event.

1. Day of the Dead Decoration 

FREE. From 20-21 Visual Arts Centre. Recommended for ages: 5 - 16 years.

This is a wonderfully spooky Day of the Dead decoration, perfect for decorating your house this Spooky Season. It's straightforward to make - there's quite a bit of cutting out so it should keep kids occupied for quite a while, or make a great project to do together. Just print out the downloadable sheets (use heavy paper or stick your print outs onto thin card), cut out, assemble and colour.

2. The Haunted Concert Hall

FREE. Saturday 31 October, 2.00pm - 2.45pm. From Children's Classic Concerts & Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Suitable for all the family!

There’s something strange in the neighbourhood, but good call, you’ve come to the right place…Halloween will look different for us all this year, but Children's Classic Concerts and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra have been working towads something special...

Children's Classic Concerts' rollerghoster blockbuster in partnership with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (sponsored by La Bonne Auberge) premieres on their Facebook-page and YouTube-Channel at 2pm on Saturday 31 October and it's completely free (donations are very welcome!).

Brace yourself for this spooky performance on Saturday.

3. Study the stars!

£1.00 - £8.00. From Brighton Science Festival. Recommended for ages: 8 - 12 years and their grown ups.

You might be missing on attending a fireworks event, but how about learning about astronomy, space and the stars? At Home With Science is a week of interactive online events for families during October half-term. Explore evolution, study the stars and tackle climate science while dipping your toes into the wonders of the ocean. You’ll be joining in, making stuff, doing experiments and playing games – all from the comfort of your own home.

Brighton Science Festival’s regular Hands-on Half-term has morphed into a programme of 30+ virtual talks and workshops delivered by a brilliant team of science presenters and performers.

4. Join an Online Moonlit Halloween Adventure

FREE. Thursday 29 October, 10.00am - 11.00am. From Sonia Sabri Company. Recommended for ages: 2 - 8 years. 

Looking for Kids Half Term Fun for your little ones? This free Online Moonlit Halloween Adventure will be an energetic, fun filled adventure for children aged 2-8 years with music, movement, interactive storytelling and a secret crafty make too.

This is a FREE event but with limited tickets so make sure to book your tickets ahead of the event.

5. Halloween craft packs and Scavenger hunts

£3.30. From Our Kids Social. Recommended for ages: 2 - 11 years.

Have your own Halloween haunted trail at home with 10 illustrations to find and a clues sheet - all emailed to you as a pdf to print at home. Simply print the digital files and hide the 10 items in your home along with the clues - add treats at each stop!

Our Kids Social also do a frighteningly good craft pack, this downloadable PDF pack includes 5 A4 sheets to keep little ones VERY busy.
