Top Five Free Online Events for January
- 05 January 2021
Looking for ways to keep the kids entertained whilst at home? We've got a whole host of entertaining online events on Fantastic for Families this month, but if you're looking for a quick round up, here's our Top Five!
Stories from the Woodshed
Until 31st January, The Story Museum, 7-16 years, FREE
The Story Museum presents Stories from the Woodshed, exciting series of 13 bewitching stories performed weekly by an extraordinary cast of professional storytellers in their theatre space.
Every week, they will be releasing a new story for you to watch, for free, on their YouTube channel. Their opening season is inspired by Grimm's fairy tales - remixed!
2. The Story of Little Snow
Until 15th January, Blue Elephant Theatre, 4-10 years, FREE
The Story of Little Snow is a mini-adventure on film, which will be free to watch online until January 15th, ahead of the full play coming in the Spring.
Pixies are never seen, but are always busy making the seasons change around us – they make the leaves turn brown and crispy, paint the patterns onto butterfly wings and fill fields with colourful flowers.
Little Snow is the pixie who plants snowdrops, but she thinks her job is rubbish. Nobody seems to understand her and she feels like she’s unimportant, so one night she runs off to have her own adventure.
A “documentary” about discovering self-worth and self-acceptance, with more than a pinch of pixie dust and a cast of colourful characters make this a festive treat for the family. Anyone who would normally come to watch a Christmas show at the Blue Elephant, or perform in their own, may spot some familiar sights and faces....
3. Little Soundabout
12th January and every Tuesday until 9th February, Soundabout, 0-5 years, FREE
Join Soundabout on YouTube every Tuesday for Little Soundabout - multi-sensory music making sessions for children in the early years with SEN.
In these free sessions parents and carers will learn new techniques for engaging with young children using music and sound whilst little ones enjoy some interactive music making!
Little Soundabout is aimed at parents and carers of very young children with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
4. My Story: Noor-un-Nissa Inayat Khan with Sufiya Ahmed
23rd January, Seven Stories, 8-16 years, FREE
Join author Sufiya Ahmed for a digital event exploring the incredible story of British-Indian World War Two heroine Noor-un-Nissa Inayat Khan.
Forced to flee Nazi-occupied France after the death of her father but horrified by the terrorisation of her homeland, Noor makes the brave decision to fight for what she believes in and returns to Paris as an undercover agent for Winston Churchill.
This event is part of Holocaust Memorial Day 2021 commemorations and inspired by the theme of ‘be the light in the darkness’, Sufiya will speak about the life of this remarkable woman, what it was like to write her story, and encourage everyone to make their own empathy resolution.
5. Hey Diddle Diddle
From 25th January - 22 March 2021, Oxford Playhouse, 1-5 years, FREE
A sing-along and play session for pre-school children and their adults, Hey Diddle Diddle returns for another term of musical fun every Monday morning from 25 Jan to 22 Mar on Zoom!
Using music, dance and acting skills to encourage creativity and imagination in early years children, Hey Diddle Diddle is the perfect fun, friendly and musical way for you and your child to start the week.
