As arts venues reopen across the country and online activities continue to be popular amongst families at home, we're delighted to bring you a series of blogs based around different art forms with suggestions of events, online events and activities. As today is World Music Day, the first theme is MUSIC. 

Taking place every year on 21 June, World Music Day celebrates the importance of music and the joy it can bring. We have some fantastic music themed events and activities on Fantastic for Families suitable for all the family – scroll down to see some of our favourites.

1. Musical Postcards and Activity Sheets

Thanks to Midlands Arts Centre and MAC Makes Music, you can take part in 10 different inclusive musical activities to help you write songs, play with sounds and make your own instruments, all using things you can find around your home.

2. Listen & Play (London)

School of Noise – Listen & Play classes support babies and toddlers to develop their listening and musical skills as they begin their journey through the sonic world around them. During these classes, babies, toddlers and their parents/guardians will get to listen to lots of different sounds, dance and move, and play music with each other.

Additional control measures are in place to help avoid the spread of Covid-19. These measures are constantly being monitored and are updated as and when necessary.

3. Wandsworth Arts Fringe (Digital)

Wandsworth Arts Fringe returns with London’s first hybrid live and digital fringe festival of 2021: Wandsworth Arts Fringe 2021, 25 June – 11 July.

One of London's best arts and culture festivals is back. Wandsworth Arts Fringe (WAF) is bringing two glorious weeks of theatre, circus, music, dance, comedy, and creative workshops to southwest London and beyond, with over 130 live and digital events on the lineup.

4. Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra Family Concert: Pirate Party (Liverpool)

Welcome aboard our Pirate Ship for this swashbuckling seafaring adventure. From the stirring sounds of The Pirate March to the spectacular finale where everyone learns The Sailor’s Hornpipe, this is an unforgettable voyage!

Hear about pirates hiding their treasure in Fingal’s Cave, and encounter Cap’n Jack Sparrow in music from Pirates of the Caribbean.

5. Tatton Park Pop Up Festival (Cheshire)

The Tatton Park Pop Up Festival is Cheshire's first socially distanced festival, with 52 events over 10 weeks featuring something for everyone! There's plenty to entertain the kids, with shows including Milkshake Live! Jurassic Earth and The Princess Tea Party. 

The festival will be socially distanced and families can buy ‘Squares’ accommodating four, five or six people. Each Square includes seating, and there is a range of on-site food and drink to choose from - including kid-friendly meal options as well as something for the grown ups.
