Half Term is coming up! Have you made plans yet? If you need a little inspiration, look no further. From visiting cultural venues near you to cozy activities at home for rainy autumn days, we’ve got plenty of ideas for you. 1) Aspex Portsmouth: Family Saturdays

Family Saturdays are back at the Aspex! In workshops suitable for the whole family, you can explore a different creative activity each week, such as painting, model making, printmaking, and inventing. These relaxed 50-minute sessions are suitable for all ages, interests and abilities.

2) Captain Pugwash & Friends: Pirate Day

 

Inviting all salty sea dogs! The dastardly Captain Gatling is bringing his plethora of magic, mind bending trickery and juggling skills to The Atkinson. Watch as the Captain performs his tricks learnt from years on the high seas, takes on daring challenges and shares his rarest treasures with you. Be sure to say ahoy when he is exploring The Atkinson and ask to see some of his amazing close-up miracles. Put on your eyepatch, warm up your mightiest ARRRRGH and prepare to board.

3) Sue & Sita

Who would have thought a kite festival could change your life? It certainly came as a surprise to Sue whose magical journey into a classic Indian tale dating back hundreds of years revealed as much about herself as about historic Indian culture. She is amazed to find that she has more in common with the goddess Sita, than she would have thought. ‘Sue & Sita’ uses puppetry, shadow theatre, and dance to celebrate identity and heritage.

4) Book Sleuths in a Bind: A Very Puzzling Case

Book Sleuths in a Bind is touring libraries all across Hertfordshire from Saturday 23rd to Sunday 31st October. A most curious disappearance has occurred at the library. Fortunately, Hertfordshire’s finest Book Sleuths – Ally and Sam – are ready to take on the case! However, they need some extra help… By working with our Sleuths to crack codes, unravel riddles and pore over puzzles, can you help them solve this Very Puzzling Case?

BSL interpretation will be provided at select shows.

5) Fungi Foray

The UK has an amazing 15,000 species of fungi, all of which are essential to the health of our ecosystems. Join Holkham Hall’s Nature Reserve Guide to explore the pinewoods and dunes, which play host to some spectacular, rare and fascinating fungi. From the elusive Tiny Earthstar to the brazen Dune Stinkhorn, you will be amazed at the variety and abundance of these Autumnal gems. This walk is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over. It will last for around 3 hours and include a variety of terrains.

6) Old Fashioned Games

 

Kids just wanna have fun! Whether you were a child 500 years ago or 50 years ago, children have always found ways to play games. Wigan & Leigh Archives have created online tutorials to show you how to play a variety of historical games at home. These games have been played by generations. They are a great way to share your own stories of childhood with children and grandchildren, as well as being an insight to life as a child up to 2000 years ago.
