Our family-friendly offer

Wheelchair and buggy access

We aim to ensure that all wheelchairs and buggies have access to the majority of the ground floor, including toilets and baby changing facilities. Access via a lift to the first floor offers access to the temporary exhibition areas, art gallery, Japanese gallery, and Glass Room. Wheelchair and buggy accessible toilets are also available on the upper floor. Please download our museum floor plan to help plan your visit.

In addition to providing access to the ground and first floors, we also have buggy storage available at reception. We do, however, request that you carry any valuables with you while your buggy is being stored.

Baby-changing facilities

Baby-changing facilities are available in the disabled facilities on the ground floor.

Accessibility

Disabled parking

Five disabled parking spaces for Blue Badge holders are available along the walled edge of Brenchley Gardens on Station Road. Parking is available for up to three hours and is just two minutes from the museum. Alternative disabled parking is available at Fremlin Walk.

Guide dogs

All visual assistance dogs are welcome throughout Maidstone Museum.

Hard of hearing groups

Tours for hard of hearing groups and schools that wish to use their own interpreter can be booked prior to your visit. Simply submit an online enquiry form today.

Mobility scooters

For visitors with electric mobility scooters, we regret to inform you that these are too heavy to use in the wheelchair lift available. However, a manual wheelchair is available to borrow during your visit. Please bring assistance with you and contact the museum before your arrival to reserve use of our manual wheelchair.
