Our family-friendly offer
Our grounds are family friendly and there’s a lot for younger visitors to enjoy.
Our 150-acre site is home to an abundance of wildlife and children will enjoy exploring the many habitats and natural features of the site, including our maturing wildlife pond.
Our NEW Children's Sensory Play Garden featuring tunnels, climbing globe, bannister slides and time circle is located close to the Remembrance Centre. A second children's play area is located in the Children's Wood onsite.
Our NEW Landscapes of Life Exhibition includes interactive elements for younger visitors to enjoy including a 'magical' pathway of leaves which reveals poppies beneath as you walk though, and a hands-on exhibit for children to design their own memorial landscape with benches, trees, animals and symbols. Family tickets are available, please visit our daily activities page for further information.
We run children's activities during Staffordshire school holidays. Visit our events pages for further information.
Children’s meal boxes are sold on site and picnic areas are also available. We offer baby change facilities.
Top Tip... Pond dipping equipment is available for hire on selected days throughout the year but we welcome visitors with their own equipment daily. Children should be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
Saplings Sensory Play*
NEW for 2017, our Little Saplings Sensory Play and story telling is designed to help our youngest visitors enjoy the Arboretum and heighten their development and enjoyment of learning. Sounds, colours, textures and other hands-on elements will add to the week’s chosen story.
Following story time, children and accompanying adults will be given complete free-reign of our expanding and evolving array of sensory toys with the objective of encouraging creativity and multi-sensory experiences. All this takes place in our beautiful surroundings and with full access to our excellent restaurant and on-site facilities.
Each session will run on the first Friday of the month.
Introductory Offer - £1.50 per child/ sapling. For babies, toddlers and preschool children.
We endeavour to cater for the needs of all our visitors and try and accommodate all access requirements where possible.
As a maturing landscape with many natural features, certain areas of the Arboretum may present challenges for those with special access requirements. There is level access to the Remembrance Centre, where toilet facilities are available. Firm, level paths give good access to much of the site, however many memorials are accessible over grass and may present a challenge for some visitors.
Wheelchairs and electric scooters are available to hire. To ensure availability, they should be booked in advance. We respectfully ask that a donation is made for the use of a manual wheelchair; a charge of £5 applies of the hire of a motorised scooter. Payment will be taken at the time of booking. Please note that motorised scooters are not permitted in the Remembrance Centre, manual wheelchairs are provided for indoor use.
Working assistance dogs are allowed in all areas of the Arboretum.
