The Roald Dahl Museum

Fantasic For Families

A great little Museum about the world’s number 1 storyteller, Roald Dahl. Marvellous for 5 to 12 year olds and their sparky grown-ups, and perfect for those who want to unlock the stories they have inside them…

Explore the Museum together, discover some fascinating facts about Roald Dahl and get some smashing ideas for your family’s own writing.

Be inspired by Roald Dahl's exciting life – learn about his school-boy pranks and his adventures in Africa, and find out about his life-long love of CHOCOLATE (look out for the chocolate doors!).

Find out how Roald Dahl’s life inspired some of his famous characters and stories and take a peek inside his writing hut – the magical place where Roald wrote all of his well-known books for children, including Matilda, The BFG and The Twits.

Get some great big story writing tips from famous authors, or indulge your creative side by making-up your own characters, creating an animation or by adding a poem to our Rhyming Tree.

As you go, put all your thoughts and flashes of inspiration in your very own Story Ideas Book, ready to turn into brilliant stories when you get home…

If you’re visiting at weekends or in Buckinghamshire school holidays, you can laugh, make a noise, or even get up and join in with storytelling (who wants to be the Big Bad Wolf from Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes?!). Or sign-up for one of our wondrous workshops where you can do all sorts of exciting things; meet awesome authors, try out some science, make a mess with clay or enjoy some crackling crafts – all inspired by your favourite Roald Dahl books.
