Fantasic For Families

Hertford Theatre is a place where people can come to feel happier, healthier, safer and proud.

We believe that:

We make a difference. Artistic endeavour and engagement have the capacity to change people’s lives and contribute to a sense of well-being.

We are a catalyst for togetherness and social cohesion.

We play a vital role in developing the cultural and economic life of East Hertfordshire and the people who live here.

We demonstrate this by:

Making and presenting work that impacts on people of all ages through professional performances, participation, education and sheer value-for-money enjoyment.

Maintaining an open, accessible and friendly environment.

Promoting the theatre and its skilled staff to be dynamic partners in the pursuit of positive, social and cultural change.

Pursuing pathways to new audiences by breaking down the barriers to attendance and engagement wherever possible.

Fostering creativity, diversity and inclusivity in all we do.

Our family-friendly offer

As a family, your visit to the theatre should be as stress-free and enjoyable as possible, creating memories and conversations long after you’ve gone home. We hope this short list will answer any queries you have about visiting us.
Hertford Theatre is committed to being a family friendly venue and we welcome all families.
We do remind families that Hertford Theatre is a place of work and a busy, active theatre and cafe space, not a play area - children should be supervised at all times.

Baby changing and feeding facilities

We have a toilet for those with disabilities which has full baby changing facilities.
You are welcome to feed your baby in our café area.

We also offer free tap water which is available at the cafe.

Buggies and Prams

You are welcome to park your buggy at the back of the auditorium when watching a show of film, but we take no responsibility for this. There is plenty of room in the café for buggies and prams to move around easily.

We have booster seats available at the back of the auditorium for small children. These operate on a first come first served arrangement- simply collect one on your way in and return it on your way out!

Bringing Babies to Hertford Theatre

We want your whole family to be able to enjoy our wide variety of shows. We offer ‘Babes in Arms’ tickets on many of our shows, simply enquire at the Box Office. These tickets are free and are issued for fire regulations only. They are suitable for babies that are not going to be sat on their own, so we advise children under the age of 18 months.

We have Parent and Baby screenings of films, which are suitable for parents and babies to watch and to not worry if babies need feeding or walking around.

Any other show, we ask that if your baby is crying that you take the baby outside the auditorium where you can soothe them without disturbing other patrons.

Relaxed Screenings

Our Relaxed Screenings have been specially designed for children with SEN and Autism.  Enjoy the film without extra stimuli such as queuing.  There will be a chill out space available in case you need a break from the film.

The lighting will be dimmed and the sound will be reduced.   We won’t show ads or trailers before the film and there will be no loud Front of House announcements.
